Astrantia major 'Roma'
Perennial with soft pink, star-shaped flowers from June to September. Ideal for partially shaded borders and attractive to pollinators.
- Bijenplant
Astrantia major 'Roma' is a graceful and long-flowering perennial, prized for its romantic, star-shaped blooms in soft to dusty pink shades. Each flower head is surrounded by finely toothed bracts, giving it a delicate, lacy appearance. Flowering from June through September, the upright stems reach 60 to 70 cm in height, emerging from a clump of deeply lobed, palmate foliage about 40 cm wide.
‘Roma’ thrives in partial shade but also tolerates sun if the soil remains consistently moist and rich in organic matter. It performs well in borders, cottage gardens, and informal planting schemes, either as a solitary accent or in groupings. Hardy and low-maintenance, this cultivar was selected by Dutch plantsman Ton ter Linden and is renowned for its floriferousness and reliability.
Deadheading spent blooms encourages reblooming and keeps the plant tidy. Astrantia 'Roma' is excellent for pollinators—especially bees and hoverflies—adding ecological value to the garden.
