This cross between R. rugosa Thunb. and R. foetida 'Persian Yellow' was introduced in 1922 as R. rugosa 'Agnes'. The rose can be classified as either rugosa or foetida, as it shares characteristics of both. The foliage resembles that of R. foetida, and the yellow color is new to the rugosa family. This large, upright shrub is very robust and, like R. foetida 'Persian Yellow', tolerates minimal pruning.
The amber-yellow flowers fade to creamy white and appear in early May-June. Occasionally, single flowers appear later in the summer. They are very double and sweetly scented.
Ideal as a hedge, between shrubs, or in a mixed border.
